Theme rooms play to owner's personality

Whether in new construction or remodeling, home owners are choosing to create theme rooms that cater to their own interests and tastes. An issue of Home By Design featured some of the theme rooms people are creating in their homes. Here is a sampling:

Wine cellar--a couple in Idaho turned their drab, dark, and cold unused basement into a wine cellar. The basement's concrete walls created the perfect environment for wine. The couple used slate tiles in neutral colors for the floor and redwood wine racks all around the room.

Sauna--Finlandia Sauna manufactures and installs saunas in hotels and spas, as well as in personal homes. They offer precut sauna packages for any size space that is framed and insulated and can be built by anyone with general carpentry experience. Another option is the free-standing, self-contained sauna that can be put anywhere and even disassembled and moved.

Home library--A home library can be its own room in the home, or can be incorporated into a family room, office or den. The possibilities for design are endless depending on your tastes and how many books you have, or plan to collect.
